Better Bankside
Better Bankside, TfL and Southwark Council’s competition to develop and build an innovative, creative, modular system to enable pavements in Bankside to be temporarily extended and encourage more people to travel ‘by foot’. Our proposal takes on an organic sweeping form populated by layers of inexpensive, recyclable and maintenance free materials to delineate pedestrian, cycle, automobile and rest/play areas. By adding these layers we create a truly multifunctional space that encourages safety, interaction, and space to linger where previously the road acted as a cut through for taxis. A design that takes back ownership.
